Dr Connal Parsley
Reader in Law
UKRI Future Leaders Fellow University of Kent
Dr Connal Parsley is Reader (Associate Professor) at Kent Law School (UK), and a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow. His current project ‘The Future of Good Decisions’ aims to identify new normative criteria for the design and evaluation of human-AI administrative decision-making. The project turns to philosophies of evolving technosocial ecologies (particularly French philosopher Bernard Stiegler), looking for new ways to understand human-AI decisions and their relative quality beyond liberal rule of law criteria and the fairness/accountability/transparency paradigm.
The project seeks to identify resonant emerging value concepts, and to develop an ecological understanding of administrative government and its decisions. Combining a background in legal practice with an interdisciplinary, multi-method approach to research, Connal is co-director of the AHRC Law and the Human network, exploring the figure of the human in the contemporary transformation of legal systems. He is also the translator of several works of Italian political philosophy.
